Whatever new thing you’re willing to try or lifestyle change you are willing to make there is always a “tip” from an expert or guru who can offer advice. Losing weight is not something that can or will happen overnight, and it’s not something that you just decide to do without careful thought.
However, just like any lifestyle change, it is always a good idea to get helpful tips from those that have done it before. Their advice and helpful do’s and don’ts will help in making your weight loss journey more effective. Tip #1: Planning Your Meals–when you get into the habit of planning your meals ahead of time, you avoid the temptation to stop and pick up fast food, or grab a quick processed and sugary snack. These items will only contribute to a build up of unhealthy fat in your body from unnecessary calories. Set up a plan for the foods you will eat for every meal ahead of time so that you are able to stick to your weight loss plan of success.
Tip #2: Eat every meal without skipping—you may think that if you limit how much you eat then it will be easier to lose weight. Actually, this is very far from the truth. If you skip a meal regularly you force your body to store fat as a means of self-preservation. According to the famous TV doctor Dr. Mehmet Oz, “Skipping meals can cause your body to go into a fat-storing starvation mode, making it harder to burn calories.” An example of that is if you skip breakfast and have to wit a few hours until lunch, once lunch time comes around you become ravenous and may eat a lot more than a normal plate full. This overeating will backfire on your weight loss goals. Gaining weight while you’re intentionally trying to lose weight is certainly not something you want to have happen. So, make sure to not miss any meals.
Tip #3: Add, not Subtract—Don’t think of your weight loss plan as a deprivation of everything yummy and delicious. There can still be delicious food to eat that will also help you to lose weight. When you add in certain foods to your weight loss plan, you can add in healthy foods. For example, add a few raspberries to your morning oatmeal; or extra vegetables to your soup. There’s no need to remove food in an attempt to lose weight. Tip #4: Make Exercising Fun—every weight loss plan includes exercising alongside eating healthy. However, there can be some apprehension when it comes to exercising because you may only see it as work. Especially if you don’t like to exercise. The best thing to do is think of exercising as having fun with a goal in mind: to loss the extra weight. So when you’re exercising, do some activity that you enjoy. Walking the neighborhood with your family, playing laser tag with some friends, or walking your dog.
Tip #5: Drink Plenty of Water—staying hydrated continuously is essential to effective weight loss. Dehydration causes water retention and prevents the body from ridding itself of toxins that cause weight gain. In addition, if you drink more water, you may actually eat loss. Experts recommend drinking a glass of water before a meal so that you won’t eat so much food during the meal. So the more water you drink, the more effective your weight loss will be. Drink up!
Tip #6: Eat on a Smaller Plate—when you serve your meals on a large plate it tends to make you want to eat more, as much as you can fit on that large plate. Therefore, if you choose to eat on a small plate, you force yourself to only fit only the amount of food on tour plate that is necessary.
Tip #7: Be Patient—losing weight is a process and it takes time. Everything worthwhile takes time. So be patient as you discipline yourself to eat healthier and exercise, and watch the weight begin to disappear.
